Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #111
Happy Friday's Five,
Greetings from the train from Berlin to Aachen–I am headed to Belgium to spend the weekend with my family.
What I'm reading
What’s Left of Condé Nast – NY Mag. A fascinating in-depth look into the glorious old days of the publishing house and its challenges for the future.
What I'm listening to
Here's my month in music for October 2019 which ended last week. Follow along the playlist for November 2019 here.
What I'm watching
Apple TV+ was launched last week with a number of tv shows including 'The Morning Show' which I highly enjoyed watching. Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon lead this great ensemble cast and the fast-paced and timely plot.
What I'm thinking about
The Heinrich Böll Foundation released a mobility atlas this week and a few of the stats kept me thinking... In Berlin, 13% of trips are made by bike but only 3% of the traffic space is made available to bikes. Contrast that with individualized motorized traffic (i.e. cars) that accounts for 30% of the trips yet has access to 39% of the available traffic space. I wish Berlin had a bolder and more consequential vision on making the city more attractive (and safer) for bikes.
What else?!
Yancey Strickler is the co-founder of Kickstarter and left the company a while ago. In the meantime, he started his own personal newsletter (which I highly recommend) and wrote his first book called 'This Could Be Our Future - A Manifesto for a More Generous World' that I can't wait to read.
Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend.
David
