Friday's Five ๐๐ผ #118
Happy Friday's Five, and Happy Holiday season,
Welcome to a final edition of Friday's Five in 2019. Sharing this short newsletter with you every Friday has been a highlight of the year so thank you very much for reading and to those who have reached out this year. I look forward to sharing more in 2020. This final edition has a slightly different format, you'll find some of my top lists for the year.
What I'm reading (aka favorite books I've read in 2019)
My goal for 2019 was to read 20 books and I am just finishing book #40 (the excellent Gun Love by Jennifer Clement). Happy about having outperformed that one. See the full list on Goodreads. Here are my top 5:
A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. This was hands down my favorite book this year. Beautifully written and I did not want it to end.
The Good Immigrant by Nikesh Shukla. Eye-opening and important.
Fleishman is in Trouble by Taffy Brodesser-Akner. Funny at first, revealing with an eye-opening twist towards the end.
What I Loved by Siri Hustvedt. A story about life. Love, loss, relationships, family, city-life, friendship.
The Heartโs Invisible Furies by John Boyne. I only discovered Boyne this year and love his storytelling and writing.
What I'm listening to (aka favorite albums of 2019)
Ten Fรฉ - Heaven Sent Me
Bear's Den - So That You Might Hear Me
Better Oblivion Community Center - s/t
The Slow Show - Lust and Learn
Jimmy Eat World - Surviving
Jenny Lewis - On The Line
What I'm watching (aka favorite movies and tv series of 2019)

What I'm thinking about
Thinking about focus areas for 2020. Current status: more risks, more connection, and more balance.
What else?!
What is your resolution?
Thank you for reading, have a great weekend, and see you on the other side.
To new beginnings!
David
