Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #128
Happy Friday's Five,
Feels like this was a tumultuous week on many levels (and across the world). Hope you're all staying sane and healthy. Hi from Brussels where I am spending the day with my client Cowboy followed by a weekend with the family.
What I'm reading
Middle England by Jonathan Coe. A bittersweet story of an extended family from and around Birmingham that covers the years leading up to Brexit. By the way, the author Jonathan Coe will be in Berlin on March 13 for a reading in my favorite neighborhood book store Uslar & Rai.
What I'm listening to
Most of us use this app every day but did you ever hear the story about how it got started? In Hrishi Hirway's new podcast 'Partners', co-founders Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom share the origin story of Instagram.
What I'm watching
Little America. The description for this new 8-episode Apple TV+ show puts it best: "Little America looks at the funny, romantic, heartfelt, inspiring and unexpected lives of immigrants in America, at a time when their stories are more relevant than ever." I highly enjoyed binging this, episode 3 in particular.
What I'm thinking about
When things come full circle... This week I went to see my friends in the Mighty Oaks play the Berlin show of their current tour promoting the new album 'All Things Go'. I was impressed and so proud to see how they've evolved as a band in the past 10 years and how tight their live shows have become. The first time I saw them play was in the staircase of the SoundCloud office 10 years ago when Ian was an intern at SoundCloud.
What else?!
Remote work is having its moment and it reminded me of this great resource for remote work, a collection of best practices from some of the most successful distributed companies. If you and your team are currently working remote, you might find this useful.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
