Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #129
Happy Friday's Five,
What a week! I hope you're all staying sane and healthy.
What I'm reading
What You Do Is Who You Are by entrepreneur turned venture capitalist Ben Horowitz. This is Horowitz's second book after the bestseller 'The Hard Thing About the Hard Things' and it takes readers along a journey of ancient and modern cultures and extracts the learnings for leaders and companies to adopt for creating company cultures that can weather both good and bad times. Discover the book.
What I'm listening to
'When I'm Small' was the first song I heard from Phantogram in 2010 and I immediately fell in love with their sound. Phantogram is now back with a new album called 'Ceremony' and it was on heavy rotation at Casa Noël this week. Listen to the album here.
What I'm watching
In 1996 at a concert during the Olympic Games held in Atlanta, a security guard named Richard Jewell discovered a suspicious package and started evacuating concert-goers before a bomb detonated from the package. Jewell was initially heralded as a hero but then became the prime suspect. This is a great movie with a fantastic cast (Katy Bates, Paul Walter Hauser, Sam Rockwell, Jon Hamm) about the story of how law enforcement and the media can derail an innocent men's life for many years. Watch the trailer here.
What I'm thinking about
This is a time to support the most vulnerable members of our communities. Inspired by many on social media, this weekend I will put up a note in my building to offer help and support to the elderly neighbors and will make sure to support local businesses.
What else?!
10 years ago this week, my friends Matze and Pierre posted the first event recommendation in Berlin on their site 'Mit Vergnügen'. Mit Vergnügen then went on a great journey on their mission to be 'your friend in the big city' and it's been so nice to follow that journey from up close. Happy 10-year anniversary, friends!
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
