Friday's Five ๐๐ผ #131
Happy Friday's Five,
First week working remote in a new setting and it's taking a while to adjust to the new reality. I'm glad to be with my family. Hope you're all finding ways to adapt and stay balanced.
What I'm reading
It's been a while since I had 'bad luck' with my selection of books. I tried to get into Jenny Offill's new book 'Weather' and was intrigued by her style and the need to imagine entire worlds behind her short sentences but I couldn't stick with it and gave up half-way through. I had a similar experience with N.K. Jemisin's 'The City We Became' which I downloaded on a whim, started reading, got super confused only to realize that it's fantasy and I needed something else. Third time's a charm and after reading Fredrik Backman's wonderful 'Beartown' last week, I decided to pick up his other book 'A Man Called Ove'.
What I'm listening to
Here's an album that has been on heavy rotation this week: Sea Wolf โ Through A Dark Wood (Spotify link)
What I'm watching
If you're looking for a light and fun movie for the weekend, I recommend the coming-of-age movie 'Booksmart'. I LOL'd a few times and I hope you will to. Watch the trailer.
What I'm thinking about
"The extent of oneโs courage or cowardice cannot be measured in ordinary times. All is revealed when something happens." - from the collection of samurai wisdom Hagakure.
What else?!
Here are three of my favorite local neighborhood businesses getting creative with the current situation: my book store 'Uslar & Rai' is offering to deliver your book order by bike. My favorite Italian 'Pappa e Ciccia' are going back to their roots and offer take-away lasagne. And my fav German restaurant 'Lokal' will prepare their classic dishes for take-away and short distance delivery.
Thank you for reading, have a great weekend!
David
