Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #133
Happy Friday's Five,
Week 3 in my Belgian exile comes to a close and it was a good one. I spent a lot of time in the trails riding my sister's mountain bike, had a full day with the kids, and ran a few online workshops with clients that went really well. We're learning a lot about online facilitation with ForChiefs and are getting better every week.
What I'm reading
'There There' by Tommy Orange and 'The Star Rover' by Jack London are two books I've read this week and while very different stories and writing styles, they were equally thrilling (and shattering). 'There There' follows 12 Native American people in the area of Oakland, California on their journey to a faithful day. 'The Star Rover' is the story of a death-row inmate who escapes the horror of prison life—and long stretches in a straitjacket—by withdrawing into vivid dreams of past lives. Phew.
What I'm listening to
Hearing the new Strokes single a few weeks ago propelled me back to a different time. A time in 2001 when their first album 'Is This It' came out and made The Strokes the band of that time. Today, The Strokes released their new album with the title 'The New Abnormal' and I wonder if their choice for that tile will make this the album of our current time. Listen here.
What I'm watching
Back when I used to work at SoundCloud, I got to spend a lot of time in our San Francisco office in the Mission district. My favorite restaurant around the corner of the office was Heirloom Cafe and have always adored the food, service, and wine recommendations. Heirloom's manager Matt is a big wine enthusiast and is using the current Corona situation to share his insights about wine. If you're interested in learning about wine, this video is an entry-level "class" into the world of wine by Matt and this video offers some of his current recommendations. I went and ordered some Le Puy after Matt talked about it in the video.
What I'm thinking about
Speaking of online facilitation, we've been thinking a lot about how we can adapt our workshop formats for an online experience and we've been using Mural, a great online collaboration tool that replaces white boards or flipcharts and lets you document the entire workshop in a simple and intuitive way.
What else?!
Kate Imbach who I follow on Instagram, regularly comes up with creative photo projects on Instagram and this week, she went on roadtrips to Argentina and Australia using Google Streetview and posted a selection of eerie photos in her Stories.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
