Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #134
Happy Friday's Five,
Feels like this week went by way faster than the previous three. It was a good week with a right balance between work, rest, and play. I am starting to miss Berlin a little bit but feel happy to be where I am.
What I'm reading
Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe is a wild ride. While non-fiction, it read like fiction and takes you through a fascinating and gripping story that develops over a series of decades starting in the 70ies about the conflict between the UK and Northern Ireland and the emergence of the IRA. I loved the book for its pace, writing, research, and access to a conflict I hadn't learned about it depth. Click for more info about the book.
What I'm listening to
Matze passed this podcast episode on to me and while mostly staying away of the COVID-19 news, this conversation with Ray Dalio (founder of Bridgewater Associates and author of the great book 'Principles') gives a high level macro view of the current crisis and the potential long-term consequences for the global economy. I learned a lot from this conversation.
What I'm watching
Unorthodox is a four-episode Netflix series about the story of a young woman in the Hasidic community in Williamsburg, Brooklyn who breaks away from the strict culture of the orthodox Jewish community. I loved this series and felt proud of my friend Anna Winger who created the series. You'll know Anna as the author of the Deutschland 83 and 86 series and perhaps also from the podcast interview I did with Anna for Role Models.
What I'm thinking about
In our bi-weekly team call with ForChiefs, my colleague Louisa asked a great Check In question and I was wondering how you would answer it: What smell, taste, sight, or sound will remind you of the current time? For me the smell of glue coming out of freshly cut timber, pine trees, and taking time to read books. How about you?
What else?!
Not much, really :)
Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!
David
