Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #135
Happy Friday's Five,
welcome to a whole bunch of subscribers! I don't know how you found me and I am glad you're here! This is where every Friday I share a few things that I enjoyed in that week.
What I'm reading
I highly enjoyed reading Emily St. John Mandel's new novel 'The Glass Hotel'. One of this year's most anticipated books, it's very different to her smash hit 'Station Eleven' and yet delivers with a story about a luxurious hotel, a Ponzi scheme, and the relationship between two half-siblings. I read it in a day and loved it.
What I'm listening to
Here are five new songs from artists that I like: Jónsi (the singer of Sigur Rós), Bright Eyes, Tom Rosenthal, Sylvan Esso, and Pete Yorn.
What I'm watching
My colleague Elsa shared this short video with me about a neat thing happening in Brussels. People are sending each other audio messages that get delivered by a bus. The initiative is called Voices of Brussels and is offered by the local public bus transportation service STIB.
What I'm thinking about
"The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something." – Kurt Vonnegut in 'A Man Without a Country'
What else?!
Isa and I welcomed back Verena Pausder for a second time on the Role Models Podcast to talk about digital education, Germany's education policy, homeschooling, opportunities for startups, and the ways she uses the current time for personal creative projects. Listen on rolemodels.co/podcast
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
