Friday's Five ๐๐ผ #140
Happy Friday's Five,
I had a good week with a mix of client work, internal ForChiefs work, quality time with my nephews, and even some time on the tennis court after many years of not playing. Here's my week:
What I'm reading
'When All Is Said' is the debut novel by Irish author Anne Griffin. Over the course of a single evening in 2014, 84-year old Maurice lines up five drinks and proposes a toast for each, instigating extended internal monologues dedicated to the five individuals who have most closely shaped his life and experience. Read the Guardian review to learn more about the book.
What I'm listening to
Another month is coming to a close which means another playlist filled with songs of the day that I share on Insta. Listen to it here, I hope you'll find and hear something that you like.
What I'm watching
'Little Fires Everywhere' is another smash hit novel by author Celeste Ng that was adapted for a miniseries by Amazon Prime. A story about two very different families in an affluent neighborhood, about race and privilege, and about the relationships between mothers and their children. The cast is led by Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon who deliver excellent performance. I enjoyed it a lot.
What I'm thinking about
Yesterday, we hosted an internal Strengthsfinder session with ForChiefs facilitated by an external Strengthsfinder-certified coach. Our goal was to experience this development tool ourselves and learn how we can apply it in our coaching practice. It was a really great and energizing day to speak about strengths and positive psychology. If you're curious, my top 5 strengths based on the test (177 statements) are: Strategic, Activator, Adaptability, Maximizer, Input. Learn more about Gallup Strengthsfinder.
What else?!
For almost 10 years, Sigrid Nikutta was the Chief Executive Officer of the BVG, Berlin's local transport company. Under her leadership, she turned around the company and made the brand cool and hip by running some bold and courageous marketing campaigns. Recently she switched to DB Cargo with a mission to make the rail freight division of Deutsche Bahn a serious competitor to the trucking industry and shift transport from the road onto the rail. We interviewed her for the 50th episode of the Role Models Podcast. Listen to it here.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
