Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #143
Happy Friday's Five,
what's up?! I had a productive and creative week and hope you had a good one too.
What I'm reading
As an interview podcaster and executive coach, the one skill I apply by far the most is listening. I recently read three articles with each a different take on this skill that I wanted to share: How to be a good listener by Stephen Moss for The Guardian, The Art of Listening by the School of Life, and What Great Listeners Actually Do by Harvard Business Review.
What I'm listening to
I think I've shared before that Doves is one of my all-time favorite bands (here is a playlist with my favorite Doves songs). I had no idea that they were still making music together until I found their first song in 11 years in my Spotify Release Radar and now can't wait to listen to their new record. Listen to the song.
What I'm watching
It's been a few weeks now since I've watched the Beastie Boys Story and can finally share it in this week's edition. I grew up listening to Beastie Boys and they've had a huge influence on my musical taste. If you're a fan, it's a must-watch. If you're into hip hop, it's a must watch. And if you're into a moving, funny, and entertaining oral history of one of the hardest working musicians of our time, it's a must-watch too. Watch the trailer.
What I'm thinking about
"Watch carefully the magic that occurs when you give a person just enough comfort to be themselves." —Atticus
What else?!
Have you ever heard about Seneca Village, the neighbourhood in Manhattan founded in 1825? I hadn't either until I came across this short video by Vox Media that tells the story of the African American land owners' neighbourhood which got destroyed in the 1850ies to make space for Central Park. Read more about Seneca Village.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
