Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #144
Happy Friday's Five,
After 15 Fridays in exile, I'm back in Berlin. I took the train from Brussels yesterday and it feels strange to be back in a large city. I'm about to jump into our ForChiefs Day, the monthly "offsite" we use to shape the future of the company.
What I'm reading
Make Your Meetings a Safe Space for Honest Conversation on HBR. My colleague Elsa shared this article with us this week and I liked how simple yet powerful the advice is. What do you think? Read the article on HBR.
What I'm listening to
Last week I wrote about Beastie Boys Story, the documentary about the band and this week I listened to this great conversation between Rick Rubin, the Beastie Boys, and Spike Jones on the Broken Record podcast. Enjoy this walk down music memory lane!
What I'm watching
Bear's Den, one my favorite bands, used the time of isolation and lockdown and invited their fans to collaborate on this version of their song 'Laurel Wreath'. It gave me goosebumps and maybe even a tear or two. Watch the video.
What I'm thinking about
There are three times in my life that I've spent away from home for more than 3 months: the three-month sabbatical in 2015 when I did a loop around the world, the three months in the U.S. in 2017 to start the Role Models Podcast after 8 years at SoundCloud, and the most recent 3,5 months in Belgium during the isolation. The first two blocks of time turned out to be important and meaningful in hindsight and I am curious to see what the latest block of time will mean for the long term.
What else?!
This week I became one of over 190.000 members of the ADFC (German Cyclist Association), the cycling lobby that focuses on advancing the interests of cyclists, environmentalism, and soft mobility.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
