Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #146
Happy Friday's Five,
I took a week off and spent my staycation de-cluttering, re-organizing and improving my apartment. That felt hugely satisfying.
What I'm reading
"If you added up all the space Manhattan devotes to cars, you’d have an area nearly four times as large as Central Park." In this interactive piece for The New York Times, Farhad Manjoo explores how much space we give to cars in a city like New York and offers an alternative view. 'I’ve Seen a Future Without Cars, and It’s Amazing'.
What I'm listening to
Iam, Supreme NTM, and Fonky Family are just three household names of French rap in the Nineties. I hadn't listened to French rap in many years and went on a serious bender this week. Here's a playlist with some tracks that entertained my mountain bike rides this week.
What I'm watching
Bill Pullman is a great actor and that becomes apparent in The Sinner, the crime anthology series that follows his work as a detective. Now in its third season, the show has managed to develop Pullman's character Harry Ambrose by adding a few layers which makes the third season a great next step in its evolution. Watch the trailer for season 3.
What I'm thinking about
"I cannot take a subway without marveling at the lottery logic that brings together a random sampling of humanity for one minute or two, testing us for kindness and compatibility. Is that not what civility is?" – Billy Hayes in 'Insomniac City'
What else?!
99U is a conference for creative originally started by Behance which is now part of Adobe. The conference is known for excellent keynotes, masterclasses, and workshops for creative people and this year's edition happened online. One of my favorite keynotes this year is by Anna Sale, the maker of the "Death, Sex, and Money" podcast. Watch 'Let's Talk About The Hard Things'.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
