Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #147
Happy Friday's Five,
I felt in flow this week, a quiet one–feels like people are enjoying the summer. Hope you had a good week too!
What I'm reading
"White felt a jolt. The lights went out and immediately flashed on again. And then the elevator stopped." - 'Up and Then Down' is a fascinating long read about elevators–more like an ode to elevators–by Nick Paumgarten for The New Yorker. Read it here.
What I'm listening to
I love discovering new music and found some great songs in this playlist by The Guardian featuring Australian artists and about 260 of their songs. Incredible that we can tap into creativity on the other side of the planet. Check it out, mate.
What I'm watching
Three videos I loved this week that I want to share with you: #1 'When Rappers hear new beats' is an amazing collection of moments caught when rappers hear a new beat for the first time. #2 I enjoyed the series 'Succession' (trailer) a lot and in particular the opening theme song. In this video, the composer of the theme Nicholas Britell breaks it down for us. #3 'Skateboarding Is Our Religion' follows Joe Brook, a staff photographer for Trasher Magazine on a day in his life capturing skaters in iconic spots in San Francisco.
What I'm thinking about
“The god that we are all looking for is actually just in other people.” - Ashton Kutcher in this great conversation with Marc Maron on the WTF Podcast.
What else?!
My friend Matze pointed me to the app Readwise, a neat little app that connects with your Kindle and lets you seamlessly share book highlights as quotes to Instagram stories (and other social media profiles). If you want to download the app, feel free to use my referral link.
Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!
David
