Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #148
Happy Friday's Five,
Hello from Belgium where I spent another week with family to celebrate the birthdays of my nephews and the life of my dad who passed away two years ago.
What I'm reading
'Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine' is the award-winning debut novel from 2017 by Gail Honeyman and tells the story of 29-year old Eleanor Oliphant who keeps saying she's fine when, euhm, clearly something is up. It's written in an amusing tone while it covers themes of loneliness, prejudice, trauma recovery, small acts of kindness, and friendship. Halfway-through, I'm enjoying it. More about the book.
What I'm listening to
Today, two albums dropped from two very different women and two very different musical styles. Taylor Swift is back with a surprise studio album titled 'folklore' (Spotify link) which was largely produced (remotely) by The National's Aaron Dessner and that features a duet with Bon Iver. It's really really good. The second is by Liza Anne, a young artist who's already releasing her fourth studio album 'Bad Vacation' (Spotify link). It's also really good.
What I'm watching
Stateless is is an Australian television drama series that centres on four strangers in an immigration detention centre in the Australian desert. Find it on Netflix.
What I'm thinking about
The experience of freedom arises not from acquiring our preferred lifestyle and our preferred state of mind but from a willingness to stay with ourselves–to be completely committed to experiencing our lives–regardless of circumstance. – Bruce Tift and Tami Simon in Already Free.
What else?!
Open a new window somewhere in the world with WindowSwap. Neat.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
