Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #149
Happy Friday's Five,
I spent the week in and near Munich with a client and had a great time! Hope you had a good week too.
What I'm reading
'Fleishman is in Trouble' is a novel I enjoyed and recommended here a few months ago. NY Magazine's The Cut now published a sequel by author Taffy Brodesser-Akner with the title 'Fleishman Is in Lockdown'. Read it here.
What I'm listening to
With 'The Michelle Obama Podcast', Michelle Obama is entering the podcasting field and sets the tone with the first episode featuring a conversation about relationships with: her husband. Listen on Spotify. And another month comes to a close which means a playlist filled with songs I enjoyed in July. Listen on Spotify.
What I'm watching
'Flatpack Empire' is a three-part BBC2 documentary about IKEA and found it very interesting to get a look behind the scenes of the otherwise secretive company. The documentary shows how products get designed, decided, and developed. How they enter a new market like India and launch new stores. And how they relentlessly focus on quality, price, and simplicity. Watch the trailer.
What I'm thinking about
"Responsibility, in its truest sense, is an entirely voluntary act; it is my response to the needs, expressed or unexpressed, of another human being." – Erich Fromm in The Art of Loving
What else?!
Speaking about responsibility, this talk by Kickstarter co-founder Yancey Strickler at 99u provides a simple yet powerful framework and tool he calls 'Bentoism' which he also talked about in his book. Watch the video here.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
