Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #153
Happy Friday's Five,
Greetings from the French countryside where I am spending a few days off. Hope you had a good week and find something you like in this week's edition of Friday's Five.
What I'm reading
Lawrence Osborne has written some novels that I've enjoyed reading on vacations. When searching for books of his to read, I found that he also wrote a non-fiction book called 'The Accidental Connoisseur'. In it, he shares his personal journey of exploration of some some of the most influential wine regions in the world. If you are into wine or want an entertaining entry into the wine world, I highly recommend it. More about the book.
What I'm listening to
Back in the early 2000s I used to work as a tour manager and one of my favorite memories of that time was the 3-week European tour with the Canadian band 'The Weakerthans'. On this tour, the sound engineer Cam introduced me to the music of Kathleen Edwards and I've been a fan of her work. Last week and eight years after her last record, she's back with a perfect album for roadtrips filled with excellent songwriting. Listen to 'Total Freedom' here.
What I'm watching
Speaking of wine... I looked forward to watching 'Uncorked'. The movie tells the story of a young African-American man in Memphis who follows his dream of becoming a master sommelier while his father, a second-generation barbecue restaurant owner expects him to take over the business. This is an unusual story about wine, hip hop, barbecue, loss, and a relationship between a father and son. Watch it on Netflix. If you're into this subject, continue with the documentary Somm.
What I'm thinking about
"If you want to make someone a real friend, ask them for a favor." – Amanda Palmer in her book 'The Art of Asking'
What else?!
Entrepreneur Michael Bohmeyer has started the first universal basic income pilot project in Germany. Through crowdfunding, they are looking for 120 people who for the next three years will receive 1.200 Euro per month. The goal of the pilot is to research the effects of additional money for the individual and for society. Fascinating. More information about the project.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
