Friday's Five ๐๐ผ #157
Happy Friday's Five.
This week was Friday's Five 3rd Anniversary. 3 years ago I sent out the first edition of this short personal newsletter not knowing how long I would enjoy writing it. Today, I enjoy it as much as the first time.
What I'm reading
Stylistically, this is a refreshing book to read. It took me a few pages to get used to it as it slowly stitches several threads into a bigger picture and then it absorbed me fully: Israel and Palestine, bird migration, the engineering behind weapons, family and unusual friendships. It has it all and it's an ambitious novel: Apeirogon by Colum McCann. Read more about the book in this Guardian review calling it a masterpiece.
What I'm listening to
My friend Stephanie started her own podcast. After struggling to find that one topic for the podcast she turned it around and create a format where every season (5 episodes), she explores one topic and interviews 5 different people about that same topic. It launched this week, it's called 'Fรผnf zu Eins' and the first topic is: The Universe. Check it out.
What I'm watching
This is likely the most creative (the production design!) video of the year: DJ Khaled feat. Drake... and another POPSTAR who stars in the movie. Watch it.
What I'm thinking about
โIt is a sad but unavoidable fact of life,โ he began, โthat as we age our social circles grow smaller. Whether from increased habit or diminished vigor, we suddenly find ourselves in the company of just a few familiar faces. So I view it as an incredible stroke of good fortune at this stage in my life to have found such a fine new friend.โ โ Amor Towles in his novel 'A Gentleman in Moscow'
What else?!
If you're into coaching, I think you might find this interesting: Ed Batista is an Executive Coach who has created an extensive resource for self-coaching. Initially designed and taught at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, he defines self-coaching as the process of guiding our own growth and development, particularly through periods of transition. It's a great collection with tons of materials and will keep you busy.
Thanks for reading, onto the next 3 years, and have a great weekend!
David
