Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #158
Happy Friday's Five,
How are you? I spent the week focused on a large new client project together with two colleagues. The focus felt good and the kick off with the new client was successful. What was your highlight?
What I'm reading
This week was so busy that I didn't get to finish or start a new book or articles so I am re-sharing a fascinating New Yorker article about Japan's Rent-A-Family industry. Read the article.
What I'm listening to
Another month went by, here is my month in music for September 2020. And if you want to follow along the playlist for October 2020, it's here.
What I'm watching
Enola Holmes tells the story of the youngest sibling of the Holmes family. She is extremely intelligent, observant, and insightful, and defies the social norms for women of the time. Her mother, Eudoria, has taught her everything from chess to jujitsu and encouraged her to be a strong-willed, and independent thinking young woman. On the day of her sixteenth birthday, Enola awakens to find her mother has disappeared. Watch it on Netflix.
What I'm thinking about
"A bony structure at the bottom of the trachea–the syrinx–is integral to the voice box of birds. With its surrounding air sac, the syrinx resonates to sound waves created by membranes along which the bird forces air. The pitch of the song is created when the bird shifts the tension on the membranes. The volume is controlled by the force of exhalation.
The bird can control two sides of the trachea independently so that some species can produce two distinct notes at once." – from Apeirogon by Colum McCann.
What else?!
Last week, I forgot to add a link to the self-coaching resources of Ed Batista. Thanks to many of you for emailing me about it. So here is the link to Ed's insightful and comprehensive resources on self-coaching.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
