Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #160
Happy Friday's Five,
Hello from the snowy mountains of Bad Gastein where I spent a week to unwind and recharge. I read a lot, slept a lot, and enjoyed a good bottle of red wine (or two) :)
What I'm reading
Fredrik Backman is widely known for his bestselling novels 'A Man Called Ove' and 'Beartown'. In his latest book 'Anxious People' he sticks to his recipe of fast-paced dialogues, quirky characters, and the Nordic charm. This is a story of a bank robbery, seven strangers, and a really bad idea. Read a review.
What I'm listening to
Matt Berninger is the lead singer of The National, known for his classic baritone voice, and occasionally creates music as a solo artist and in other collaborations. Today, he's releasing his first solo studio album 'Serpentine Prison' and it's a perfect album for the season. Listen to 'Serpentine Prison' on Spotify.
What I'm watching
'Broadchurch' was one of my favorite British tv series of the past year and put David Tennant on my radar. In 'Des', a three-episode mini-series, he plays the Scottish serial killer Dennis Nielsen arrested in the early 80ies and he is exceptional in this role. The entire case is excellent, really, and the story also focuses on the subplot of how bureaucracy stood in the way of justice in this case. Watch the trailer.
What I'm thinking about
This week reminded me of one of my favorite quotes ever: "Between stimulus and response lies a space. In that space lie our freedom and power to choose a response. In our response lies our growth and our happiness." – Viktor Frankl
What else?!
If you ever come out here to Bad Gastein, I recommend staying at the Hotel Miramonte. Very relaxed vibe, a very friendly staff, and the room rates include breakfast, soup for lunch, and a three-course dinner menu. They make it easy for you not wanting to leave the hotel and the spa. Visit Miramonte.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
