Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #168
Happy Friday's Five,
Had a mixed week of low energy because of a nasty cold and high energy because of our client assignment with Bio Company crossing an important milestone.
What I'm reading
Gloria Steinem is a writer, activist, organizer, and inspiring leader and captured some of her most memorable stories from her time on the road that spans several decades of her life as a traveler, a listener, and a catalyst for change. More about the book.
What I'm listening to
This week I'm recommending some podcasts that I enjoyed. First, this conversation between Tim Ferriss and the founder & CEO of Spotify, Daniel Ek about his changing role as a CEO, how he prioritizes his time, and how he makes decisions. Second, a few editions ago, I shared the fantastic 'Drive to Survive' series on Netflix about the Formula 1 circus in which Daniel Ricciardo plays a central role. He was a guest on Dax Sheppard's 'Armchair Expert' and is worth your time even if you're not into racing. Dax shows how great of a conversationalist he is. Third, Rashida Jones and Bill Gates started a new podcast to discuss the biggest questions of our time. This one about why we believe in lies is a good starting point. Listen & learn!
What I'm watching
Hotel Michelberger is Tom and & Nadine's unique hotel in Berlin where I spent a good amount of time because it's a special place. It's a hotel where many bands stay while they're in the city and Tom and Nadine have created deep relationships with many of the artists that have stayed there over the years. These relationships turned into an invitation to collaborate at the PEOPLE festival at the legendary Funkhaus in Berlin and they captured it all on tape. Starting today for 48 hours, you can watch the movie of 200 artists and 5000 guests blend together. Can't wait to watch it.
What I'm thinking about
“Escape competition through authenticity.” Basically, when you’re competing with people, it’s because you’re copying them. It’s because you’re trying to do the same thing. But every human is different. Don’t copy. – Naval Ravikant
What else?!
Charles is the VP Operations and People at my client Cowboy and together with a few people run the Western coastline from Knokke in Belgium to San Sebastian in Spain. Along the run, they take photos and created 'Mare Nostrum', a visual guide of the coastline for and by runners. I backed this project on Kickstarter and can't wait to hold the book in my hands. What a great idea! Check it out.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
