Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #172
Happy Friday's Five,
Hello from Mallorca where I'm hibernating in a secluded little casita and a garden, reading, reflecting, planning.
What I'm reading
Such a Fun Age is Kiley Reid#s debut novel and The Guardian has called her 'the next Sally Rooney'. Reid "offers a refreshing take on an age-old question: can we connect across barriers of race, gender, wealth and privilege?" Read the book's review in The Guardian.
What I'm listening to
Time off means I can catch up on some long-form podcast episodes. Three I enjoyed a lot were the conversations between Brené Brown and Jim Collins, my friend Matze with comedian Luke Mockridge, and with author Joachim Meyerhoff.
What I'm watching
The Night Manager is a six-part British series adapted from a novel by John le Carré and follows a former soldier recruited by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office to infiltrate the inner circle of an arms dealer. What really stands out in this series are the spectacular filming locations which reminded me of the quality of locations in the show Succession. Bonus: it stars Olivia Coleman. Watch the trailer.
What I'm thinking about
“We seem normal only to those who don’t know us very well. In a wiser, more self-aware society than our own, a standard question on any early dinner date would be: “And how are you crazy?” — Alain de Botton
What else?!
In Matze's conversation with Meyerhoff, the he tell the story of the artist Florian Slotawa who stays in hotels and deconstructs every piece of furniture in the room to build a hut in which he sleeps. The next day, he builds it all back together before he leaves. Art is so cool. Check out the photos.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
