Friday's Five ๐๐ผ #174
Happy Friday's Five,
Confetti week with many long hikes in the mountains, some island exploring, and a few prep calls with clients. Here's what else happened:
What I'm reading
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V. E. Schwab is a fantastic novel that I am currently reading about Addie LaRue who is born in France in 1691 and makes a deal with the devil. She gets to live forever but people don't remember her. The story follows her life in the 17th century as well as in the year 2014 and is beautifully written and a refreshing premise. Read the view on NPR.
What I'm listening to
Two things: my ForChiefs colleague Hugo was a guest on the happy works podcast and speaks about the work we do with ForChiefs and our clients, the ways we do it, and about how we adapted our work during the corona situation. Listen on Spotify. An album I missed in 2019 that I just discovered and that is on heavy rotation in casita Noรซl is Hypersonic Missiles by Sam Fender. Great album all around with 'Will We Talk' as a standout track. Listen on Spotify.
What I'm watching
French television has been on a roll lately and I loved watching The Bonfire of Destiny, Family Business, and Call my Agent. Another smash hit I watched recently is Lupin, a modern take on the adventures of the gentleman thief and master in disguise Arsรจne Lupin. Omar Sy is stellar in this production and worth your time (watch it in French with subtitles!). Here's the trailer.
What I'm thinking about
โAt critical moments in time, you can raise the aspirations of other people significantly, especially when they are relatively young, simply by suggesting they do something better or more ambitious than what they might have in mind. It costs you relatively little to do this, but the benefit to them, and to the broader world, may be enormous.โ โ Tyler Cowen
What else?!
A few years ago I almost started a job at Nike. The hiring manager at the time was Dirk who I've gotten along well even though I ended up not taking the job. Dirk recently started his own podcast and we spoke about purpose, something I call "pivotal people", the way I am currently designing my life, and some tips and lessons learned during my career. Listen on Spotify.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
