Friday's Five ๐๐ผ #176
Happy Friday's Five,
a week packed with online workshops, coaching sessions, and some office work to catch up on. Felt energized to be back in Berlin.
What I'm reading
The Great Alone by by Kristin Hannah. My aunt Cecile recommended this book after I read (loved!) and shared 'The Nightingale' by Hannah in this newsletter last year. I'm about 20% in and liking it a lot and the images she describes about a small family moving from Seattle to Alaska. Thanks Cecile! More about the book.
What I'm listening to
Two conversations I enjoyed listening to this week: Dax Shepard interviews Justin Timberlake who shares a whole lot of anecdotes from his time at the Disney Channel, N*Sync, and his solo career. It's so fun to listen to Timberlake reflect on his experiences and share them so energetically. He's so cool. The second one is this chat between Kevin Rose and Andy Rachleff. A venture capitalist turned founder (Wealthfront), Andy is such a delight to listen to. His sharp thinking and warm way to communicate stood out for me. And he speaks a lot about automation of personal finances, a fast-developing trend that I loved learning more about. Highly recommended!
What I'm watching
The Dip on Netflix is a beautiful movie, if not one of the most beautiful movies of the past years. I found the story and in particular the cast and their performance really incredible. Carey Mulligan and Ralph Fiennes play two real-life characters that follow the archeologist Basil Brown who in 1939 discovered and excavated a 7th-century Anglo-Saxon ship burial at Sutton Hoo in "one of the most important archaeological discoveries of all time". Watch the trailer.
What I'm thinking about
"Make a decision that helps you remove a thousand of decisions." โ Tim Ferriss
What else?!
For a few years now I've been reading up on the effects of glucose in your metabolism and I wanted to learn more about my personal glucose levels, track them, and find ways to make better choices in my nutrition and exercise routines. I started wearing a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) and for the next two weeks, will track the glucose levels and my nutrition to better understand which types of food and meals causes spikes. It's a big topic and we will see lots of movement in consumer companies going into this field. If you want to get a good intro or overview into the topic, I highly recommend this podcast with Kevin Rose and Josh Clemente, founder of Levels Health. Listen.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
