Friday's Five ๐๐ผ #177
Happy Friday's Five,
and welcome to a new batch of subscribers! I am glad you found me and became a subscriber. I hope that this short newsletter will be of value to you.
What I'm reading
Since watching Mad Men many years ago I've been fascinated by the office and work cultures of the past. Next to the music and advertising industry, the media industry to me is one of the most fascinating ones. The amount of money available was insane and that created a very particular work culture that is hard to imagine in the present day. Time Magazine was one of those lighthouses of the time and this article reminds us well about those times. Read it on Town & Country Magazine.
What I'm listening to
In June 2018 I started sharing a song every day on my Instagram profile and collected the songs in monthly playlists. I'm continuing this tradition in 2021 and here is my playlist for the month of January of this new year. Listen on Spotify.
What I'm watching
After listening to Dax Shepard's conversation with Justin Timberlake that I shared in last week's Friday's Five, I watched Timberlake's current movie 'Palmer' where he delivers a stellar performance. It's a beautiful story that deeply moved me and that shows the breadth of Timberlake's talent. There are a few emotional scenes towards the end of the movie where he shows that he is not only a great singer but also a great actor. Watch the trailer.
What I'm thinking about
"A person was like a city. You couldnโt let a few less desirable parts put you off the whole. There may be bits you donโt like, a few dodgy side streets and suburbs, but the good stuff makes it worthwhile." โ Matt Haig in his current novel "Midnight Library".
What else?!
I'm one week into using the Abbott FreeStyle Libre CGM (continuous glucose monitor) and it's been insightful so far. Seeing how my blood sugar responds to different types of food help me make decisions about what to eat and when to eat. Fascinating to see in what ways different people's metabolisms react differently to the same food. I have one week to go and already made changes to my food plan. If you're interested about more detailed personal stories, I recommend reading Ella Mihov's Medium post.
And here's my periodic invitation for feedback about Friday's Five: what do you like, what would you see more or less of, what else?! I love feedback and am grateful for your thoughts.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend.
David
