Friday's Five 🖐🏼 #76
Happy Friday's Five,
Howdy from a packed and busy week. Here's what I could squeeze in this week:
What I'm reading
The Good Immigrant – this is a fantastic book, I highly encourage you to read it – Goodreads
What I'm listening to
Master storyteller Malcolm Gladwell and legendary music producer Rick Rubin started a new podcast called 'Broken Record' and this first episode sets the right tone (pun intended!) for the following episodes – Apple Podcasts.
Just discovered Phoebe Bridgers and spent some time this week exploring her work. I'm hooked. Check out her solo record Stranger in the Alps (and the standout tracks 'Scott Street' and the upbeat 'Motion Sickness'). Then listen to her collaboration with Conor Oberst Better Oblivion Community Center (and the standout track 'Dylan Thomas'). Phoebe also just shared the process of writing 'Scott Street' on Song Exploder.
What I'm watching
This love letter to Berlin from Bob Mould (thanks to 'Fridays' Five reader Mike for sending!)
The Currency of Trust – a talk by Rachel Botsman at DLD in January
Chef's Table – Season 6.
What I'm thinking about
What it feels like to be turning 40 this year (after recording this episode of Der Role Models Podcast with Steffi Luxat).
What else?!
I've been sharing a song a day over on my Instagram and add that song to a monthly playlist. Some readers and followers have asked to get a playlist for all songs shared in 2018 so here it is: 2018. Hope you'll discover something new.
Have a great weekend, and thanks for reading.
David
