Friday's Five ✋ #182
Happy Friday! ☀️
One year ago today I was on my way to Brussels to spend the first lockdown with my sister and her family for an indefinite duration. Indefinite turned into 3,5 special months filled with quality time with my two nephews. One year in, what a strange time this has been.
What I’m reading 📖
Do you know this feeling when you read a book and the story is so hard to read and at the same time it’s so beautifully written, almost poetic? The last time I had that feeling was with Hanya Yanagihara’s gut-wrenching ‘A Little Life’, one of my favorite novels of the last 10 years. Reading Megan Hunter’s ‘The Harpy’ felt a little similar. A couple, adultery, and revenge. Read the Guardian review.
What I’m listening to 🎧
19 years after releasing the stellar ‘Neon Golden’ and 6 years after their latest album, The Notwist are back with an aptly-named ‘Vertigo Days’, an album produced mostly online during the pandemic. A standout track for me is ‘Where You Find Me’. Listen on Spotify.
What I’m watching 📺
‘The Best of Enemies’ is based on a real-life story set in the early 70ies in Durham, North Carolina. The movie centers around civil rights activist Ann Atwater and KKK leader CP Ellis who are joined by a mediator to resolve a dispute around school segregation. The mediator uses a format called ‘charrettes’ to involve members of the local community of both sides to develop solutions to resolve the rivalry. Watch the trailer and find it on Netflix.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“Plans are useless but planning is invaluable.” - Scott Galloway
What else?! 💯
We read a lot about the electrification of cars and bikes. In the meantime, the boating industry is innovating in the space and the Swedish company X-Shore is leading the way with a 100% electric boat. It looks beautiful. Take a ride.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
