Happy Friday! ☀️
Had an excellent first workation week here in the Southwest of France with a nice blend of coaching sessions, long hikes, and pool time with friends.
What I’m reading 📖
Gentrification is a term and dynamic that I have been aware of for a long time and that is clearly visible at play in Berlin where I live. In ‘Vanishing New York’ - How a Great City Lost its Soul’, Jeremiah Moss dissects and chronicles how gentrification driven by idealogical, economical, and political forces has affected New York City neighborhood by neighborhood. It’s part love letter to New York and part fierce criticism of a city and its leaders that has always been in a state of change yet at the same time celebrating its roots and uniqueness. And it’s a disturbing account of how gentrification has become a force globally that displaces those who made the place the place it is or was. More about the book.
What I’m listening to 🎧
A few days ago I wondered what Lorde's up to. And with that, she popped up in my Spotify with a new song years after her smash hit album. It’s a slow build summer song that fits perfectly into my current surrounding and will likely be on repeat.
What I’m watching 📺
Danish film “Druk” (Another Round) won the Oscar for best international movie and I re-watched it with a friend a while ago. It’s such a wonderful movie with well-developed characters and a heart-warming (and saddening) story. If you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend it. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“Unfortunately, now that the neighborhood is nice enough for galleries, there aren’t many artists left.”
– Jeremiah Moss in Vanishing New York.
What else?! 💯
Isa and I interviewed Dr. Sophie Chung, the doctor turned consultant turned entrepreneur. Sophie founded Qunomedical, a platform that aims at making the health care system more equitable and simpler. Sophie shares how and why she seeks experiences that bring her to absolute limits and how her entire life has always had an element of both rebellion and revolution. Tune in!
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
