Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello from Paris where I’m spending a few days to balance out the time in the quaint and calm countryside. It feels good to be back in a city I love and the see it come to life again.
What I’m reading 📖
I just started reading ‘The Plot’ by Jean Hanff Korelitz. A once promising young novelist turned teacher meets a student – full of himself and arrogant – sure that the plot of his first novel will be a break-through novel. The student dies and the teacher decides to steal the story to complete the novel. I like the premise and am curious about how the story develops. More about the book.
What I’m listening to 🎧
Iam is a French hip hop band from Marseille that I used to listen to a lot as a teenager. They’ve been active since 1989 and just released a new EP. ‘Tout ce qu’on est’ is my favorite track and fits the current Paris summer vibe. Allez!
What I’m watching 📺
I didn’t watch anything new this week so I’m sharing a movie I watched a while ago but didn’t share here yet. ‘Lincoln’, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln, portrays the political life of the U.S. President who led the nation through the end of the Civil War and the passing of the Thirteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution that abolished slavery. I found the movie incredible for its acting and production. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
Spending more than a year in lockdown made me forget how much I miss visiting museums. And in Paris, the Pompidou Centre is one of my favorite. Next to its outstanding permanent collection, the museum is currently hosting a temporary exhibition with female artists called ‘Women in Abstraction’ featuring some of the most famous abstractionists and some who never received the recognition they deserve. If you’re planning to be in Paris, check it out.
What else?! 💯
Lary is one of the most popular German musicians of this time. Isa and I met her for a conversation for the Role Models Podcast and we clicked from the moment we met. We cover a broad range of topics like how to unlearn things (as opposed to learning things), how she found her flow, and how she escaped the hamster wheel that she herself created. One of my highlight conversations this year.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
