Friday's Five ✋ #199
Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello from Starnberger See where I am hosting a two-day offsite for a leadership team at Personio. It feels great to be able to meet in person again.
What I’m reading 📖
‘The Sense of Ending’ by Julian Barnes is the story of a man who comes to terms with his past. At first sight, he seems content about his career followed by a comfortable retirement, an amiable marriage followed by amicable divorce, a child seen safely into her own domestic security. A letter of a lawyer, however, makes him take a second look his memory challenged. I loved this book for its beautiful story and writing. More about the book.
What I’m listening to 🎧
When I moved to Berlin in 2008, Ken Jebsen was a radio show host everyone talked about for his fast-paced and intrigued interview style. He always was an intense person and remained so until today. ‘Cui Bono - WTF Happened to Ken Jebsen?’ is a six-part podcast series that investigates how and why Ken Jebsen became one of the most prominent conspiracy theorists in Germany. It’s an excellent show, well researched.
What I’m watching 📺
A trip to Paris always included a visit to ‘Colette’, dubbed the first concept store for fashion and culture back in the late 90ies. In 2017, at its peak and to the surprise of everyone, it closed permanently. High Snobiety created the documentary ‘Colette Mon Amour’ about the store and its influence in global fashion and streetwear. Watch the trailer here.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“That's the value of good art, I guess. It makes you see yourself more clearly.” – My friend Cassie in an email the other day.
What else?! 💯
‘Der Raum’ is a new show by Eva Schulz (who recently spoke to Matze in his podcast) that starts today and it’s a different kind of show about politics. He guests enter a room (‘Der Raum’) and need to debate a political topic in a playful way with the goal to come to an agreement. I haven’t watched it yet and I will this weekend. Watch the trailer.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
