Friday's Five ✋ #205
Happy Friday! ☀️
I had a fun week this week mixed with work and play. Congratulations to my friends Eric and Alex for launching their electric bike subscription service Dance this week, it was fun to be out at a launch event and reconnect with friends.
What I’m reading 📖
I’ve recently facilitated a series of leadership development workshops for emerging leaders and participants often ask me for book recommendations. One of the best books for first time managers I’ve read is ‘Making of a Manager’ by Julie Zhou, former VP Product Design at Facebook. She breaks down some of the core responsibilities of people management in a practical way. More about the book.
What I’m listening to 🎧
Jen Cloher, The Killers, Fink, and many more were artists on heavy rotation in August. Here is my month in music. What was your favorite music discovery this last month?
What I’m watching 📺
‘Borgen’ continued my exploration into Scandinavian tv shows. In three seasons, this Danish show follows the rise of a minor centrist politician who unexpectedly becomes the first female Danish prime minister. In a way, it’s a Danish version of The West Wing, one of my favorite television shows ever. Watch the trailer here.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
The funniest fact I learned this week comes from my friend Sarah who recently from from Los Angeles to Idyllwild, a small mountain town in California. She told me about Max Mueller II who is the town’s elected mayor. And Max, as a matter of fact, is a Golden Retriever. Idyllwild’s mayor is a dog. And a cute one.
What else?! 💯
Isa and I are back from summer break with Role Models with our first guest Christa Nickels who is a protagonist in the documentary feature film Die Unbeugsamen which I shared here last week. Christa is a founding member of the Green Party, has stood up in Parliament to big shots like Helmut Kohl, and fearlessly fought for representation of women in a male-dominated political circus in the 80es. Listen to it here.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
