Friday's Five ✋ #211
Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello from Munich where I’m staying over the weekend before heading to Austria with a client. I spent the week in Cologne with my client Jodel and love returning to the city I used to live in a while ago. And Munich is always a favorite city in Germany to travel to.
What I’m reading 📖
News have been picking up lately about upcoming night train connections across Europe and new high speed rail connections. My feeling is that this will be the decade of rail travel and it seems like Italy is a role model in Europe (next to France I would say). Here’s how Italy high-speed trains helped make domestic airline travel redundant.
What I’m listening to 🎧
When we started the Role Models Podcast, a source of inspiration and information was Tim Ferriss who at the time shared his approach and learnings openly and thereby making it easier for others to start. A few years later, he now captured all (!) of his learnings in a three-hour podcast episode that is just gold. If you’re creating or considering to start creating a podcast, this should be a must-listen.
What I’m watching 📺
‘Maid’ is my favorite show of the year so far. It delicately weaves in a number of subjects like single motherhood, domestic violence, failing social safety nets, family dynamics, and poverty. All the female characters have multifaceted internal worlds of fantasy and ambition for themselves and their own futures, untethered to any male characters. It depicts women's friendships as protective, kind, and independent of their romantic entanglements with men. The show is well written and features excellent performances. Find it on Netflix and watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
After watching ‘Maid’ I donated to a women’s shelter run by Caritas in Berlin to support women and their children who are survivors of domestic violence. If you can, join!
What else?! 💯
I’ve always liked sweaters with a college print and at the hotel where I stayed at in Cologne, the guest manager was wearing a cool one embroidered with her initials. Turns out it’s a unique piece that is produced by Frankfurt-based Bürkle & Schwarz. Pick your size, add your initials, select colours for the sweater and embroidery and out comes your unique college sweater. Check it out.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
