Friday's Five ✋ #217
Happy Friday! ☀️
Another busy week ends and the year-end buzz is starting to kick in. I spent most of the week with two clients on leadership and team development. In a few moments, I am off to spend the day with my ForChiefs colleagues for our quarterly ForChiefs Day.
What I’m reading 📖
Once a year, The New York Time publishes a list of 100 books worth checking out. This year’s version came out this week and I spotted a few books that I’ve read this year, notably The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles, my favorite book of the year. Check it out.
What I’m listening to 🎧
I’ve tried getting into audio books several times and the format has just not stuck with me so far. I’m giving it another go because of a few Audible credits outstanding. My current book is by Michelle Zauner’s and her beautiful and moving memoir ‘Crying in H Mart’. Family, food, and grief. Rich in intimate anecdotes. I hope Michelle’s book will help me stick with audio books. More about the book.
What I’m watching 📺
Feels like I am late to the game on this one: Narcos: Mexico. Similar to its parent series Narcos, it explores the early origins of drug trafficking in South America that would turn into the war on drugs. Inspired by true events, the series centers around a former police officer who decides to build a drug empire and a young DEA agent who is transferred to Guadalajara. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
I signed up for Twitter in 2008 and since then, the number of people I follow had increased to over 1200, yielding a potpourri of daily tweets across a variety of topics. Recently, whenever I opened Twitter I noticed that it does something to my mind and it didn’t feel good. I’d close Twitter irritated, agitated, my mind running. So I made a radical cut this week and reduced the people I follow to 15 friends. I will likely increase that number over time but want to be way more mindful about the content they tweet about.
What else?! 💯
To unwind, I love browsing Reels on Instagram by Italian chefs and to pick up a new pasta recipe here and there. One chef that makes me chuckle is Daniele Rossi. His dead-pan attitude and beautiful dishes are a treat. For Reel.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
