Happy Friday! ☀️
Week 5 in hibernation mode, this week was reading, thinking, and planning week! Excited about the work projects coming up in February and March with my clients.
What I’m reading 📖
‘The Fail-Safe’ Startup by Harvard Business School professor Tom Eisenmann is a must-read for first-time startup founders and a would-be-great-to-read book for serial entrepreneurs. Typically, books to help start your business use the perspective and case studies of companies that succeeded. Here, however, Eisenmann flips this around. He analysed startups that failed, derived common failure patterns, structures his ideas into critical company stages, and provides practical tools and methods to mitigate these patterns. He also uses lots of well researched case studies of failed startups like Better Place, Fab.com, and many others to illustrate and interpret his logic. Must-read.
What I’m listening to 🎧
Here are three new songs by three bands that I adore that came out in the last two weeks and that have been on repeat during long walks and poolside. Enjoy!
What I’m watching 📺
The premise of ‘Yellowjackets’ first didn’t quite interest me but oh my, I’m glad I watched it. The series tells the narrative of a team of wildly talented high-school girls soccer players who survive a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness, where–let’s just say–things start happening. The series compellingly switches between the events in the 90ies and alternates to the present time, 25 years after the event and how the protagonists deal with their experience as teenagers. The series was a surprise to me and I can’t wait for season 2. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
A few weeks ago I shared here that I had reduced the number of Twitter followers from 1000+ to 15 which drastically reduced my Twitter usage and entirely stopped the tweet-sized stimulations of my mind. Early January I stopped checking the news and stopped visiting news sites all together. My brain thanks me for it.
What else?! 💯
Found this neat post in my friend Julia’s newsletter and enjoyed it. We all have heard the term ‘elevator pitch’ and its purpose. Turns out, that this format to articulate your idea in a short and concise manner may have its origin in architecture. Here’s a short history of the elevator pitch.
Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!
David
Hi David, I really liked your thought about not visiting news sites at all. I also tried it and yes, it reduced my stress level. But on the downside, I struggled to stay informed ... How do you manage this lack of information? Ciao!
