Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello from Vienna where I spent the week. Some work highlights included a leadership development session with an agency client and a vision workshop with a music company.
What I’m reading 📖
If you love New York you might love this book ‘Vanishing New York’ as it offers a different perspective of how the city has changed over the years. The influence of politics through time, an economic agenda, displacement, tradition, gentrification, history. This book by Jeremiah Moss offers a first-hand account of someone who loves New York for all its quirks and what makes New York new-york-y but who also criticizes that over time, many of these quirks get replaced by generic corporate uniformism. More about the book.
What I’m listening to 🎧
‘White Lies’ came out with a new album ‘As I Try Not To Fall Apart’ and I already liked the first single of the new release. Can’t wait to listen to the full record.
What I’m watching 📺
I remember reading this New York Magazine article in 2018 that chronicles the unusual rise of a young German woman named Anna “Delvey” Sorokin after a friend pointed me to it. I also remember that the article made me chuckle. Last week, Netflix released the limited mini series ‘Inventing Anna’ that is based on this very article and what a ride this series is. The strangest part of the whole show was to realise that one of the protagonists (the visionary tech entrepreneur) is someone I know in real life and who I spent time with in New York and Berlin. I enjoyed the show and loved the performances of Anna Chlumsky (who plays the reporter) and Julia Garner (who plays Anna Delvey), also known who plays Ruth in ‘Ozark’. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“The realization that life is absurd cannot be an end, but only a beginning.” —Albert Camus
What else?! 💯
A friend shared this Instagram Reel by the World Economic Forum about how social media and TikTok in particular have been boosting physical book sales. Love it.
Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!
