Happy Friday! ☀️
After a week in Hamburg with clients I am now in Lisbon to spend the weekend to celebrate the birthday of my good friend Fiete with a group of friends. I missed spending time with close friends, so I’m grateful to be here.
What I’m reading 📖
For a short but highly condensed version of history and the lessons learned from it, I recommend Ariel and Will Durant’s ‘The Lessons of History’ from 1968. The book presents an overview of the themes and lessons observed from 5,000 years of world history, examined from 12 perspectives: geography, biology, race, character, morals, religion, economics, socialism, government, war, growth and decay, and progress. For summary of the summary, check James Clear’s website.
What I’m listening to 🎧
Belle and Sebastian have been a loyal companion to me for what, 20 years? I remember working in the Underdog Record Store in Cologne that it was one of the bands whose vinyl records crossed the counter most. It’s always a treat to see them release new music and I love this upbeat new song ‘Unnecessary Drama’.
What I’m watching 📺
‘Bad Vegan’ follows the footsteps of ‘The Tindler Swindler’, another docu-series that portrays a strange story that involves a famed vegan restaurant owner who meets what turns out to be a con artist in New York City. Aside from the story, I always find it a fascinating study of psychology and the mind. It left me with a bunch of open questions at the end and an urge to understand the psychology of the protagonists even more. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
Our knowledge of any past event is incomplete. Most history is guessing and the rest is prejudice. – Will and Ariel Durant
What else?! 💯
Not much else, just that Lisbon is such a great city. Love the colors, the patterns, the vibe. If you haven’t been, I highly recommend it!
Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!
