Happy Friday! ☀️
After a week back in Vienna filled with sun and long daily walks with a Greate Dane I am doing a pit stop in Belgium to visit friends and family in Brussels and my home town.
What I’m reading 📖
By way of one of his essays, I happened onto Ross Gay’s book The Book of Delights and it came at the perfect time. It’s a short book with short anecdotes collected over one year, each framed as a delightful experience. It’s a hopeful book and makes me appreciate the beauty in small and often mundane details of someone else’s life. The book inspired me to collect my own delights from the past few weeks on the road. Delightful!
What I’m listening to 🎧
It’s the season of album releases by some of my favorite bands. After Gangs of Youth, Arcade Fire, this week it’s time for a new record by Bear’s Den, a British folk band from London. Blue Hours, their fourth studio album, is a fine collection of heartfelt songs, polished production, and lyrics full of emotional complexity.
What I’m watching 📺
I’ve been following Amy C. Edmondson’s work for a few years now. She’s a professor for Management and Leadership at Harvard Business School and has written a number of books and articles and is a frequent public speaker. A good way to access her work and thinking is through this lecture on how to create psychological safety in the workplace. Watch The Fearless Organization.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
Kevin Kelly is known for compiling lists with unsolicited yet useful advice that I enjoy reading every year it comes out. For his 70th birthday, Kelly recently published an updated version and as always, it includes food for thought, nuggets of wisdon, and delicious life lessons. Here are 103 bits of advice he wish he had known.
What else?! 💯
One delightful thing happened this morning when an old home town friend sent me a photo on Instagram. It’s a photo from 1998 taken, at a hardcore show in Belgium and it shows me fist up and shouting along to hardcore punk band H2O. I had no idea this photo existed and it propelled me back to that glorious time. H2O Go!
Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!
