Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello from the Dordogne where I spend a few weeks each year in the summer. I am sitting outside, surrounded by fields and the sound of wind in the trees, enjoying the early-evening sun and waiting for friends and loved ones to arrive in the coming days.
What I’m reading 📖
Since switching to a vegetarian (and when possible, vegan) diet, I’ve been interested in the different alternatives to proteins that are available currently as well as in development. I find the topic of lab-grown (or cultivated) meat fascinating as it could become a revolution in the way we grow food without raising and killing animals, something that is not going to be sustainable given the population growth and the demand for animal protein. To deepen my knowledge, I’m reading Paul Shapiro’s book from 2018 titled Clean Meat and it makes me hopeful that in the next decade we will have serious alternatives available. More about the book.
What I’m listening to 🎧
I was looking for narrated podcasts and came across the Spotify Original called Scotland Yard Confidential, a podcast that in each episode looks into the minds of some of the greatest detectives in history. In the first episode, they look into a crime set in London in 1910 and the descriptions of that era in London make the story even more thrilling. Here is the trailer:
What I’m watching 📺
David Letterman is the perfect blend of entertainer and interviewer and came back to Netflix with his show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction after leaving his late night show. The fourth season just came out and I’ve already watched the episode featuring Ryan Reynolds. Next up… Billie Eilish, Will Smith, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
I’m still on a news fast since January, stopped posting to Instagram, deleted my Facebook account years ago, and reduced my Twitter followings to 15 friends. It’s been a boon for my mind.
“What if we spent less time shouting into the void and being washed over with shouting in return-and more time talking in rooms to those for whom our words are intended? If we have only so much attention to give, and only so much time on this earth, we might want to think about reinfusing our attention and our communication with the intention that both deserve.” – Jenny Odell
What else?! 💯
The Bergerac wine region lives a bit in the shadow of its next-door neighbor Bordeaux so I want to prop some of the dedicated wine makers in the region that deserve some light: Les Tours by Chateau des Verdots, Ainsi-soi-t’il by Chateau Montdoyen, and Mirabelle by Chateau Jaubertie. All three are big and bold reds, if you come across them, give them a try.
Thanks for reading, bon weekend!
