Happy Friday! ☀️
Woohoo, edition #250 of Friday’s Five is out today. For the past 250 weeks without a break, I’ve shared what I found interesting in that week. Nearly five years in, I still love putting this newsletter together and love when friends and strangers occasionally write back to tell me what they enjoy about the newsletter. Onto the next 250 editions, thank you for reading!
What I’m reading 📖
Spending time with close friends here on an island in Sweden, I happened onto this article by Julie Beck for The Atlantic that explains the six forces that fuel friendship. For three years, Beck has conducted over 100 interviews to understand what makes a friendship a friendship. Click to learn about the six forces.
What I’m listening to 🎧
The Just Enough Family is a captivating story of a New York family in the 1980es told as a limited podcast series.
The Just Enough Family follows the meteoric rise and staggering fall of the Steinbergs, once one of America’s richest families, through the eyes of Liz Lange— successful fashion designer, captivating storyteller, and niece of the infamous corporate raider Saul Steinberg.
What I’m watching 📺
I’m still into my third binge of Game of Thrones (season 6) and I haven’t watched anything new this week so this is more of a note to self to watch We Own The City by the makers of The Wire. Set in Baltimore, it follows the rise and fall of a police task force and the corruption surrounding it. Watch the trailer which looks promising.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
July 22 is always a bittersweet day for me. Today, I think of and remember my dad who passed away on this day four years ago. July 22 is also my youngest nephew’s birthday, Basile turns 7 today. On a roadtrip recently I thought about the values that my father carried and that I see reflected today in my family and my nephews: an openness and curiosity for the people and the world, an appreciation for living and enjoying life through, food, wine, and travel, and a generosity of making time and giving support to anyone asking. I wish he could see my nephew and his deep sense of care, curiosity, and determination.
What else?! 💯
Every year, the water brands Acqua Panna and San Pelligrino bring out a list of the top 50 restaurants in the world. For many years, Copenhagen’s Noma has held the top spot on the list and this year, there is a new restaurant on the top, also based in Copenhagen. Yum!
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!

So sorry for your loss. Lost my dad 4 years ago as well (but in March). When the anniversary comes, it’s all right there. Wishing you the best.
