Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello from outside Brussels where I just arrived after a nice and quiet week in Vienna filled with deep and focused work. I’m spending three weeks in Belgium to dog- and housesit at my sister’s.
What I’m reading 📖
This summer I’ve been cooking quite a bit in different settings and have been enjoying trying out new recipes and re-cooking my favorites. I’m always on the lookout for new cookbooks and just got The Mozza Cookbook, created by Nancy Silverton of LA-based Italian Restaurant of the same name. On the first look, it’s quite cheese and meat-biased so I’m looking for books focused on vegetarian and vegan recipes that go beyond Ottolenghi (which I have and love). Send me your tips it you have any. The Mozza Cookbook.
What I’m listening to 🎧
In 2016, I came across a video of a young musician named Maggie Rogers who presented her song ‘Alaska’ to Pharell Williams. The video gives me goosebumps: Maggie’s curious and slightly anxious look at Pharell, Pharell’s focused listening and emotional reaction while the song unfolds, his reaction to her about what he just listened to. This was Rogers’ break and today, she’s releasing her new and sophomore album ‘Surrender’ of which I like the first 3-4 tracks most, the opener in particular. It’s been such a pleasure to see her evolve and make it as an artist since that video.
What I’m watching 📺
This section today should be better named ‘What I look forward to watching’ as this movie is hitting theatres today and I haven’t watched it. I’ve been a fan of B.J. Novak’s work since The Office (on which he was part of the cast, executive producer, and writer). In this new movie written and directed by him, Novak also plays the main character alongside a great cast including Ashton Kutcher, Issa Rae, and John Mayer. Novak plays a journalist and podcaster who travels from New York City to West Texas to investigate the death of a girl he was hooking up with. It looks promising and I can’t wait to watch it. Here’s the trailer:
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” – Carl Gustav Jung
What else?! 💯
When traveling, I am sometimes unsure about the tipping etiquette in the country I am currently visiting. Here’s a handy guide with tipping etiquette around the world. Spoiler: never tip in Japan, people will be offended.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
