Happy Friday! ☀️
Hi from my last few days in Brussels before heading back to Berlin and damn, I am going to miss this dog. I had another productive week, closed off some long due items, and started a new journey with a client. This was a good week.
What I’m reading 📖
Ever since Ryan Holiday released ‘The Daily Stoic’ I find this book on book shelfs or bathrooms when visiting friends. This book, and some of the originals classics, have seen a consistent increase in the sales over the years (with a big bump during the pandemic). A recent Vice article talks about the revival of stoicism that we’ve seen, as always with a slight Vice edge to it. Read the piece here.
What I’m listening to 🎧
Here’s another episode of the Lex Fridman podcast that I found highly interesting to listen to, about a topic that at times can be very controversial. That’s why I enjoy and respect when two people take time (in this case close to 3 hours) to calmly talk through the topic and all related issues. The conversation with psychologist Richard Haier who studies human intelligence closed some of my knowledge gaps (IQ score vs. G-Factor) and didn’t shy away from going into some controversial aspects of studying human intelligence.
What I’m watching 📺
My dad had a huge book shelf at the house and I remember picking up Mario Tuzo’s book ‘The Godfather’ since I found the cover and description intriguing. It was one of the first novels I read back-to-back and I loved it. Later on I watched the movie ‘The Godfather’ from 1972, one of Francis Ford Coppola’s early movies and it definitely is a classic. This week, I watched a 10-episode mini series about the story of how the movie was made. It’s called ‘The Offer’ and stars Miles Teller, Juno Temple, and Giovanni Ribisi. It’s a fascinating story, well entertaining, and gets better each episode. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
"If the world could remain within a frame like a painting on a wall, I think we'd see the beauty then and stand staring in awe" – Bright Eyes
What else?! 💯
In 2020 I bought tickets for a Bright Eyes show that was rescheduled due to the pandemic. The show is tonight at Astra Kulturhaus in Berlin and I won’t be back in time to see it. So I’m giving away my two tickets to subscribers of Friday’s Five on a ‘first come, first served’ basis so if you’re available to go tonight on short notice, and you’re the first to let me know, the tickets are yours.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
