Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello from the train–I’m on my way to a wedding in Salzburg which also kicks off a long stretch of work travel. I’m leaving Berlin today and won’t be back before the beginning of November. 👋
What I’m reading 📖
Fifty-four years ago, in a push for publicity, The Sunday Times offered £5,000 to whoever could sail solo nonstop around the world the fastest. It was technically a race, but that was an afterthought, as no one had ever completed the feat.
Nine men joined the race but two of them generated the most news. And their experience couldn’t be more different and includes a few life lessons. Sail!
What I’m listening to 🎧
In my taste for music, hip hop is not the most dominated genre represented. But here and there, I hear a track that really catches me and then I listen to it endlessly. This track by Auckland, New Zealand based David Dallas is one of them.
What I’m watching 📺
Mentioned here before in a previous edition as a note to self, I finally watched We Own The City, a HBO production by the producers of The Wire that, mostly based on real events, tells the story of a squad of corrupt cops in the city of Baltimore. It’s gripping and infuriating, knowing that what is dramatized in the series happened for real. Here is the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“The Compound Effect is the principle of reaping huge rewards from a series of small, smart choices”
– I frequently need to remind myself of the compounding effect. Not just in finance, but in health.
What else?! 💯
In 1970, artist Michael Heizer started developing a monumental sculpture named ‘City’ in a remote area of Nevada. A mile and a half long and a half mile wide, it is a vast complex of shaped mounds and depressions made of compacted dirt, rock, and concrete. It’s only now that it is approaching completion and has opened for visitation. It’s impressive. Check it out here and also have a look at the map view.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
