Happy Friday Saturday! ☀️
Hello from Brussels where I arrived late last night from Mannheim to spend time with my family and nephews. I’m on uncle duty today and will take one of my two nephews on the bike to his swim lesson.
What I’m reading 📖
It was a busy week with little reading so I was happy to click through to ‘Field Notes’, a resource for leadership development that Nick shared last week. I’m working my way through the different articles ranging from the obligations of leadership to the rising importance of effective communication design. Take a look.
What I’m listening to 🎧
In 2010 Ian Hooper joined SoundCloud as an intern and it was clear that his real passion is to write and perform music rather than come to an office every day. He and his Mighty Oaks played one of their first shows in the SoundCloud offices. Fast forward 10+ years, Mighty Oaks have released three studio albums and toured endlessly. Yesterday, Ian released the first song of his very first solo album with the title ‘Here to Stay’. I love the galloping drums and piano theme. Way to go, Ian. I’m glad you followed what you love.
What I’m watching 📺
From the first few moments of the movie ‘Mr. Harrigan’s Phone’–the cinematography, the music, and the narration by co-star Jaeden Martell–I enjoyed the movie until shortly before its end which left me a bit puzzled. Overall, Martell and Kiefer Sutherland’s performances stand out, the scenery in Maine, and the selection of music. I watched it on the train last night after a busy week, and it was the right kind of movie for that moment. As a young boy, Craig gets hired by a billionaire to read to him three times a week. Then come the iPhones and mysteries. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
Title, position, or authority does not make someone a leader.
– from ‘The Obligations of Leadership’
What else?! 💯
A few weeks ago I subscribed to the New York Times after seeing a discount offer I couldn’t let pass. My most used section of the app is the Games section and every day I look forward to playing ‘Spelling Bee’. The goal of the game is to find as many words as possible with a set of seven letters of which one letter needs to be included in every word and one ‘Pangram’ word uses all seven letters. ‘Spelling Queen’ is a free ad-based iPhone version of the same game, find it here.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
