Happy Friday! ☀️
Hi from a tail end of finally a quieter week mainly with 1:1 coaching, writing, internal work, and planning the rest of the year. I’ve been feeling very tired this week and can feel the toll of weeks of heavy work travel.
What I’m reading 📖
Several years ago I got to meet Camille Ricketts. She had moved from a career in business media into venture capital to become the editor of an early-stage venture capital firm called First Round. Her mission was to create a resource of How-Tos for startups by using the experience of operators and detailed and tactical advise. Camille at the time interviewed me about internal communications at SoundCloud and I still have people reaching out to me after all these years. Fast-forward to 2022, First Round Review is now a massive repository of highly relevant and high-quality startup advice. I go back often to learn. Dive in!
What I’m listening to 🎧
James Mercer of The Shins and Broken Bells seem to be alternating the releases of their studio albums and this October it’s time for another Broken Bells album. Every of their albums has a different sound and seem to capture the zeitgeist.
What I’m watching 📺
SoundCloud and Spotify started around the same time with two different models but what’s clear is that both have influenced and changed the music industry after facing some strong headwinds when. Following this year’s theme of Hollywood portraying Tech, Netflix just released a Swedish production about the fictionalized account of how Spotify was started. I haven’t watched it yet and am planning to. Here’s the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
Woke up this morning and my first thought I had was the question what time of the day most people in the world are asleep. Looks like many others have had the same question and it’s been debated (and concluded) over on Quora. I concur.
What else?! 💯
When committing to a vegetarian (and vegan when possible) diet at the beginning of the year, my biggest concern was to miss some of my favourite soul food dishes. 11 months in, I can say that I don’t miss anything and that there are alternatives for everything. A big winner is this mushroom bolognese from Jamie Oliver. Yum!
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
