Happy Friday! ☀️
After a week in Isreal we met up with my friend Matze and his family in Copenhagen to celebrate his birthday and spend some quality time together after not seeing each other for a while.
What I’m reading 📖
Speaking of Denmark, it turns out that Scandinavia holds the gold standard for SAD, the Seasonal Affective Disorder, a type of depression that occurs in the fall and winter season. Helen Russell, author of the book “The Year of Living Danishly” had relocated to Denmark and compiled some tips from people across Scandinavia about how they deal with SAD. Click!
What I’m listening to 🎧
It’s November which means the October playlist is ready and filled with the songs that made it the soundtrack of the month. It includes new music by Ian Hooper, classics like Emmylou Harris, or some new discoveries from Israel.
What I’m watching 📺
This week I got to enjoy some different kind of programming. After Copenhagen, I joined Matze for the last live podcast show of his tour in Hamburg and even got to put up my old tour manager hat for the night. Set at the venerable Hans Theatre including table service during the show, Matze interviewed Linda Zervakis and Rocko Schamoni. It was a fun night and the stage literally burned.
And last night, Matze surprised me with two tickets for Gang of Youths, the band who created two of my most recent favorite albums of the past few years.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
There are a few places in the world that have made it onto my list of favorites places in the word and this week, the list got a new addition: the Louisiana Museum for Modern Art north of Copenhagen. I loved the underground and overground galleries of the building that are integrated neatly into the surroundings composed of gardens, trees, a lake, and the sea. We got lucky to see amazing art work by Alex da Corte and stunning photography by August Sander and his portrait series “People of the 20th Century”.
What else?! 💯
In Copenhagen, Matze took me to a record store he had discovered a few days before I arrived. We spent an hour dug into hundreds of vinyl records, bought some classics and new releases, and chatted with the owner. It was a Monday morning, and the place was packed. Sound Station is one of those places that, if you’re into music and vinyl, is heaven on earth. It reminded me of my time selling records at Underdog in Cologne 20+ years ago.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
