Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello from Vienna where I arrived after another busy week of travel that took me from Brussels to Hamburg, then to north of Kiel for an offsite, then back to Vienna. I am starting to feel the year wearing on me and the outlook is another 3-4 weeks of sprinting until wrapping up 2022.
What I’m reading 📖
Artificial Intelligence is the buzz of our time and will influence our work and jobs in the future. This raises the question how we can prepare the next generation for this macro trend while not yet knowing what specific jobs there will be in the future. I found this article about how we can prepare our kids for jobs that don’t exist yet a good thought provoker, in particular the quote copied in the ‘Thinking’ section below. Read.
What I’m listening to 🎧
Jule and Sascha Lobo, co-hosts of ‘Feel the News’ discuss the upcoming football World Cup (see below), summarize the most critical aspects of this edition and discuss how they personally approach the upcoming event.
What I’m watching 📺
The FIFA World Cup is starting on Sunday and much has been written and talked about this edition of the tournament. Personally, I am torn. I enjoy world cups in general and watching the games and nations come together every 4 years. At the same time I am not feeling it this year and this time of the year, for all the reasons debated elsewhere. Watching the 4-part Netflix documentary ‘FIFA Uncovered’ added to the sour taste about the organization behind the tournament. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“The most valuable combinations of skills are going to be people who both have good training in computer science, who know how the machines work, but also understand the needs of society and the organization, and so have an understanding of humanities and social sciences,” he says. “That combination, already in the market, is where the biggest opportunities are.” - from the article linked above.
What else?! 💯
The Vienna Art Week started yesterday and I am headed to the countryside today for the opening of the Shariat Collection featuring leading figures from a generation of thrilling figurative artists of African origin. If you’re around, come around.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
