Happy Friday! ☀️
Hi from the last hours of the year 2022. And what an eventful it has been. I am switching into reflection mode soon and perhaps will share some of them in next week’s edition. Until then, many thanks to all of you for reading Friday’s Five this year. It’s still a lot of fun to share this and that with you and I hope you’ve found in value in it. Onwards into 2023, here is the final edition of FF for the year.
What I’m reading 📖
Brian Macintyre is a British author whose books regularly get adapted for television (SAS Rogue Heroes, Operation Mincemeat, and A Spy Among Friends, see below). After watching and lovong both shows, I just picked up his most recent book ‘Colditz - Prisoners of the Castle’, a book about a prison in Nazi-Germany and the life and escape attempts from the prison. I just started but if the book is anything like the adapted series of his previous books, it sure will be a ride. More about the author and his books.
What I’m listening to 🎧
Travel is not the best-suited category for podcasting and usually works best on visually-driven platforms like Instagram and blogs. If done right, however, both travel and podcasting work like in the podcast ‘Not Lost’. For each episode, host Brandon and a co-host travel to a place, connect with the locals to learn about the place, and aim to get invited over for dinner. Having been to Bozeman, Montana often on my way to my relatives in Big Sky, I started with this episode. I have a few more episodes to form a verdict but in this first one, the idea of combining podcasting and travel work out. Other episodes feature Montreal, Mexico City, and New Orleans.
What I’m watching 📺
Lately I’ve been in the mood for spy stories and the TV series ‘A Spy Among Friends’ is one of the best in the genre I’ve seen in a while. Inspired by true events set in the early 60ies, and starring Damian Lewis and Guy Pearce, an MI6 intelligence officer learns that his best friend and colleague has been working with the soviet intelligence service for over 20 years. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“We must take the radical step of inquiring into our selves, seeking to see ourselves with clarity, grace, compassion, and a fierce commitment to cut through our own bullshit. We open ourselves up to ways we’ve been complicit in creating the conditions we say we don’t want.” – Jerry Colonna
What else?! 💯
I came a cross this good list of 22 ideas and mental models of which some I knew and others were new. Have a look for yourself.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend, and happy holidays!
