Happy Friday Saturday! ☀️
Hello from the end of a week spent mostly confined inside due to a rough throat infection. Not the start into the year I had imagined, but a chance to read and read and read…
What I’m reading 📖
I wouldn’t consider myself a minimalist but have realized over the years that I’m more content with less stuff. For The Atlantic, Arthur. C Brooks wrote about the science of happiness, the reasons why we are never satisfied, and ways to wanting less. Read the piece.
What I’m listening to 🎧
For a few years in another time I used to work as a tour manager and one the main bands I’d get to go on tours with was a band from Aachen called Pale. We’d board an old red VW T3 van and for weeks at a time, drive across Germany, the UK, Austria, and Switzerland. It was a defining time in my life that I look back to often. Even though having split up a few years ago, Pale just released a final album. This is a last time capsule that honors their time as a band and in particular their guitar player Christian who tragically passed away last year. Listening to the album gives me goosebumps as it’s not just an album, it’s 10 songs that evoke a whole bunch of young adult memories. Listen to ‘The Night, The Dawn and What Remains’ here.
What I’m watching 📺
Continuing my catch up of best movies of the year, I hadn’t read or seen anything about the ‘The Triangle of Sadness’ before watching it which means I was in for a ride. Black comedy and satiric film maker Ruben Östlund is back with a hilarious take on wealth and privilege and the entire movie is a delight. Cringy and funny, disturbing and uncomfortable. High up on my list of best movies of the year. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
Each of us can ride the waves of attachments and urges, hoping futilely that someday, somehow, we will get and keep that satisfaction we crave. Or we can take a shot at free will and self-mastery. It’s a lifelong battle against our inner caveman. Often, he wins. But with determination and practice, we can find respite from that chronic dissatisfaction and experience the joy that is true human freedom. – Arthur C. Brooks

'The Triangle of Sadness' was a great surprise, really enjoyed it as well.
Re: how to practice & experience satisfaction, this is exactly what we're working on / building with objet.cc - I'd love you to try it out ✌️
