Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello after a series of perfect days filled with sun, ocean views, exercise, some work, much reading, and good food.
What I’m reading 📖
A year ago I read Bill Bowders ‘Red Notice’ about his dealings in Russia in the early nineties. What first started as a financial success for his investment firm turned into a story of discovering money laundering schemes at a mass scale and the gruesome murder of his Moscow-based lawyer Sergei Magnitsky. Bowder’s new book ‘Freezing Order’ continues the unbelievable story of Bowder trying to uncover money laundering while ruthless Russian authorities (all the way to the top with Putin) tried to turn the blame on him. It’s an incredible story that reads like an international thriller. I read it one day. More about the book.
What I’m listening to 🎧
Whenever I come across Rick Rubin, I listen. Having been a fan of his work as a music producer for more than 20 years, a while ago, Rubin started to speak more publicly about his own journey and the creative process. He just published his first book called ‘The Creative Act: A Way of Being’ and speaks about it on the Huberman Labs podcast. I haven’t read the book or listened to the podcast yet but will do this weekend.
What I’m watching 📺
‘She Said’ tells the story of the two New York Times investigative reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor who uncovered the scandal involving powerful Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, who later was convicted to 23 years of prison for sexual abuse of dozens of women over the course of decades. The story also launched the #MeToo movement. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“What is the single insight that most changed your life?” – great question yielding a series of great stories in this Quora thread.
What else?! 💯
It’s the time of annual reviews and outlooks. My coach peer Steve Schlafman over in New York created his Ultimate Annual Review in 2018 which has been downloaded over 15.000 times. Get yours here.
