Happy Friday! ☀️
Two more days in hibernation mode before going back to Europe. Ever since becoming independent in 2017 I decided to take the month of January off (with some minor work exceptions) to get my mind and body into a state ready to tackle the year ahead. Every January, I am grateful about this decision and to be able to do it. Feeling strong and rested, and ready to go home.
What I’m reading 📖
Rick Rubin is a legendary music producer and responsible for some of the most important records of the past decades. Artists who have worked with him value how he is able to help them reach the depth of their creativity and bring out their best out which often results in genre-defining albums. Rick Rubin now shared his wisdom resulting from decades of working with artists in a book for creative people called ‘The Creative Act: A Way of Being’. I am reading it right now and it’s a gift. More about the book.
What I’m listening to 🎧
Known for his pointy commentary about tech, trends, and markets, Scott Galloway meets Dax Shepard of the Armchair Expert Podcast for a slightly different type of conversation about masculinity and some current issues higher education. True to his style, Galloway drops a plethora of stats and facts that left my head spinning.
What I’m watching 📺
‘Better Call Saul’ is one if not the best-written shows in my opinion. The spin-off and prequel to the massive hit ‘Breaking Bad’ is way slower than BB and takes time over the course of six seasons to develop each character and their interconnection in such a patient, careful, and cinematographically way that it made me say “Wow” out loud so many more times than other shows. The whole mood and visual tone of the show is masterful. I’m late to the sixth and final season, but every so happy I can enjoy it now. Three more episodes until it’s done. Watch the trailer for Season 6.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
Turning something from an idea into a reality can make it seem smaller. It changes from unearthly to earthly. The imagination has no limits. The physical world does. The work exists in both. – Rick Rubin
What else?! 💯
My friend and coffee house & co-working pioneer Ansgar Oberholz has done so much in and around Berlin to create spaces where people want to spend time. His recent addition is the Sankt Oberholz Retreat, a new offsite location for creative and business people outside of Berlin. As a coach who often finds himself in generic and ugly conference rooms, this is place I would love to spend time in.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
