Happy Friday!☀️
What a great and busy week! I facilitated 4 workshops, did a talk and Q&A about leadership for a big record company, approvals for a few new client projects in the coming months, and quality time with my best friend.
What I’m reading 📖
In recent internal offsites with ForChiefs we started spending more time understanding and working with and for purpose companies and global developments goal. Through that process I learned more about the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Next to those 17 goals, the initiative also developed a framework for Inner Development Goals that are highly relevant for the work I do everyday with leaders, regardless of their sector and whether or not they contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. The framework sparked some thinking and ideas on where and how I can integrate them into my work as a coach. Learn about the Inner Development Goals here.
What I’m listening to 🎧
The final episode of Dead Eyes is one of the best I’ve heard in a while in a semi-serial podcast series. The premise of the show is that 22 years ago, aspiring actor (and host of the show) Connor Ratliff got fired by Tom Hanks for a small role in episode 5 of Band of Brothers, which Tom Hanks directed, because he was told that he had ‘dead eyes’. Decades later, Ratliff goes on a (podcast) quest to find out why. Over the course of 2 seasons and 30+ episodes, he speaks to actors and directors about the process and feelings of rejection in show business and in the final episode, he gets to speak to Tom Hanks directly about the experience. It’s a beautiful conversation that tells us much about how personal experiences of a same moment differ, about how to deal with rejections, and paths not taken.
What I’m watching 📺
‘Bad Sisters’ was part of my honorable mentions of my top 5 tv shows of 2023 and I never recommended in the newsletter. I loved this show for its great cast, perfectly crafted villain, and black Irish humour. And besides, I’ll watch everything with Sharon Horgan who I first saw in ‘Catastrophe’. The five Garvey sisters live in present-day Dublin. After Grace's abusive, controlling husband John Paul dies unexpectedly, the sisters find themselves at the centre of a life insurance investigation. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
Today my mom is on my mind. She passed away suddenly in November of 2012 and today would have been her birthday and it always is a bittersweet day. Sweet because I know how proud she would be of the life my sister and I have created and bitter because she’s not there to see it. Thank you for everything, mom!
What else?! 💯
After a year of extensive travel and no real use for a bike every day a few weeks ago I finally got my Dance electric bike. Dance, co-founded by my friends Eric and Alex, offer monthly subscriptions for your own electric bike or moped. I loved my first bike trips–the bike is powerful and comfortable and the house delivery was impeccable. The bike comes with a lock and a phone holder and it’s great to use the app while riding to see how many kilometers you drive. Let’s Dance!
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
